Post COVID Is Coming!
April 13, 2021

The post-COVID world is on its way, and it can’t come soon enough. As restrictions ease and your establishment increases capacity, your customers will be ready to celebrate. Welcoming them back will be a very happy time – one that that is long overdue. Amid the excitement, don’t put a damper on brighter days by forgetting the essentials. The last thing you need is to deal with liability concerns related to overconsumption of alcohol at your establishment. Keep things running smoothly with these important reminders:
Be Vigilant About…
- Checking IDs. Minors will be ready to celebrate too, and it’s up to you to make sure you aren’t selling or serving them alcohol.
- Not serving anyone who’s had too much, or who will have had too much if you serve them one more. Inhibitions will likely be down as the world opens back up. Be even more observant than usual for signs of over-drinking. Remember that revelers may have been drinking before arriving at your place – don’t forget to do an initial scan for signs of intoxication.
If You’re an Employer….
- Remind all your servers of key practices for serving safely and practical tips for cutting someone off. Employees that stuck with you through the pandemic may be a bit rusty, and as capacity increases, you will likely have a lot of new hires. Train and retrain. Establish a structured process to ensure everyone is regularly reminded of their responsibilities and how to fulfill them.
- Be there for your servers. For servers facing tough situations, knowing their manager has their back makes a world of difference. How a server responds to a questionable ID or a customer who’s had too much is all that stands between your establishment and very ugly situations and legal liabilities. It’s well-worth extra time and dedication!
