There are many reasons to obtain a BASSET card. First and foremost is compliance with Illinois law. As of July 1, 2018 all on-premise alcohol servers in Illinois (and those required to check identification for alcohol service) are required to take the BASSET course.
Other reasons include:
- Your employer will likely require it;
- If you break the law as a seller-server, criminal charges may be filed against you and you may be sued if your actions resulted in property damage, personal injury or death;
- As a seller-server of alcohol, you play a vital role in public safety. You are an important part of keeping alcohol out of the hands of minors and drunk drivers off the roads.
- As boring as it may be, there’s a lot of good stuff in our course that will make you better and more responsible at your job.
Yes you are. There are no criminal history restrictions in taking a BASSET certification course.
Nope. Although you must be a certain age to sell or serve alcohol in Illinois, you can take our online On-Premise and Off-Premise BASSET courses and get a BASSET card at any age.
All BASSET cards, both On-Premise and Off-Premise, across the state of Illinois are valid for 3 years and are non-renewable. That means when the 3 years is up, that particular card expires permanently. To remain BASSET certified, you have to re-enroll in our online BASSET certification course and receive a new BASSET card.
